The Holocene

Created in Blender using a 3D scanned asset from sketchfab and other models also from blender-kit.

The idea for this piece came to mind when I saw a beautiful photo from Mia Novakova of a room covered in a tarp. This sparked me to think about how we have covered everything in plastic in the modern world. Although plastic is practical and very useful, it has long standing consequences in its harm to nature.

I furthered this idea by adding an owl, a symbol of wisdom and knowledge, with prehistoric arrows piercing its body which is loosely inspired by renaissance paintings of Saint Sebastian. The arrows are meant to illustrate the beginning of human innovation in weapons technology leading to where we are now.

Lastly, In the background through the window, one can see the consequences of this attitude toward nature, our own downfall.
